Cerebral Palsy

Every child with cerebral palsy has their own extraordinary story of resilience. Our interdisciplinary team walks every step of that journey alongside your family.

Understanding CP

What is Cerebral Palsy?

Cerebral palsy (CP) is a group of permanent but non-progressive movement disorders caused by damage to or abnormal development of the developing brain, most often before or during birth. It is the most common physical disability in childhood, affecting movement, posture, muscle tone and coordination.

CP presents very differently from child to child. Some children walk independently but with difficulty; others use wheelchairs. Some have good communication; others may use augmentative devices. CP is often accompanied by co-occurring conditions including epilepsy, speech and language difficulties, sensory impairments, and learning differences.

At Reach N Rise, our physiotherapy, occupational therapy and speech therapy teams work in close collaboration to maximise each child's functional independence, comfort and quality of life — with the family at the centre of every decision.
