Global Developmental Delay

When development is slower across multiple areas, early, intensive and interdisciplinary therapy makes a profound difference. Your child has more potential than any label can capture.

Understanding GDD

What is Global Developmental Delay?

Global Developmental Delay (GDD) is a term used when a child under 5 shows significant delays in two or more areas of development — motor skills, speech and language, cognitive skills, social and emotional development, or activities of daily living. It is distinguished from intellectual disability in that children with GDD are still under assessment age, and the long-term trajectory remains to be determined.

GDD can result from a range of underlying causes including genetic conditions, premature birth, brain injury, metabolic disorders, or unknown factors. In many cases, intensive early intervention can significantly improve developmental outcomes, and some children with GDD make substantial gains that narrow or close the developmental gap over time.

At Reach N Rise, our interdisciplinary team provides comprehensive assessment and coordinated therapy across all affected developmental domains. We work intensively with families to maximise the critical early intervention window and give every child the best possible foundation for their future.
